The Will

(by Sahlu Bekele - Toronto)

They were out in the field

Roaming together

To search and discover

The things that matter

Like grass, like water

That made their lives better

There were monkeys and donkeys

Somewhat bizarre but a possible mix

There were sheep and goats

Relatives and cousins

There were chicken and eagles

Same family but enemies

There also were buffalos

In the jungle in the plains

But there also were foxes and wolves

Hyenas and wild dogs

The predators and the carnivores

Everyone was out in the field

Tending to their need

While most were grazing the grass

Others were waiting for a chance

While most neglected the danger

Others waited for their dinner

Mobilized by their hunger

Specially the hyena

The tireless observer

Of animal behavior

Was waiting patiently

To attack suddenly

While the field seemed tranquil

It wasn’t safe still

And peace was about to crack

With a hyena strike

Silence was broken

Peace was shaken

Safety was forgotten

Survival uncertain

For the grazing masses

Of peaceful animals

It’s shameful and embarrassing

When one hyena chases

One thousand lives

The herbivores running for life

The carnivores setting the strife

Here chaos, there chaos

Everywhere chaos

Total confusion total turmoil

Fills the air, fills the plains

To the advantage of the killers

In this drama in this course

There appeared a heard of buffalos

Organized and formidable force

Never scared of the hyenas

Fought back with zeal

In unison, with will

Stood their ground

Since they found

What mattered most

Wasn’t in numbers but in the will

The will to cooperate

The will to associate

The will to stand together

The will to do the job

And peace was restored

And the hunters were hunted

And the preys breathed a sigh of relief

And life went on as usual

Thanks to collective defense

Of the buffalo force

Because one needs the whole

And the whole needs the one

To succeed to win

One has to be twin

This business of ours

Needs conviction, needs passion

To keep our being, to save the nation

To take Ethiopia in the right direction

From this generation to that generation¨

To the subjugated community of uncertainty. THE GENESIS CURSE!

By Fretsidiq Fekade

We were told the story

Of the beginning of time,

A slice of eternity,

And its tantalizing mystery.

strained in the realm of uncertainty;

Man equivocated,

Yet, define the indefinable,

Obscure the unknown Eternal. ( G.I AM )

Semantic and science omitted essence.

Religions besieged by a leap of faith.

The mother of all bodies

Limited unjustly to its forms.

Icons and symbols

Serve to mystify otherwise.

The marvelous things of the universe;

Immanent and Transcendental,

Knowable yet mystical,

Punish human intelligence for eons.

Who did conjure up the spirit,

When it was sluggish and inert.

To know the unknown;

The unseen and hidden,

Where no points of reference given.

Who set metric system

For the naked mind to measure, and

As to how creation came to being.

Who did the creator;

Omniscient, Omnipotent, and

Omnipresent Being, whisper to:

Fire, wind, Earth, water-or

KJV, Einstein , Plato, or Aristotle?

The mystery of creation

coupled with awe and elation.

Something is felt.

Its grounds enigmatic yet.

Needs not clarification

But asks for explanation.

The genesis’ curse

Invokes imagination.

Beyond the micro and the macro,

(minuscule to galaxies )

The depth and the height,

The size of all creation,

To know the unknown self,

Shall “the GREAT I AM”

Unfolds the matrix.

And the genesis curse better redeem itself.

AMEN!

ULTIMATUM

By Fretsidiq Fekade

The enemy with in,
The talking insane
Crowned with deceit
Transgressor and reprobate
disgraced and repugnant
Cold blooded tyrant

Dwell in lies and deception
Promote political prostitution
With deep rooted hatred
Have incarcerated and murdered
Committed hideous capital crime
In the name of ethnic federalism
Disintegrate the sovereign nation
Not yet pleaded guilty of treason
with the intent to stay in power
Befriended with supremacy-monger

Your crimes stand tall
Your insults echo every angle
The travesty and profane
Got too hefty to carry on
Who can forget and forgive
For the scars are real not illusive
We have not been avenging
In the midst of mourning
We have not wiped out the tears
Flooding on innocent bodies

We beg for God to give us water
A portion of bread and a shelter
The enemy with-in quicken to answer
Come forth with spilled blood,
and bodies of the brothers.
Their fleshes are brought forth
As delicacy for vultures.
The scavengers hovers the sky,
Predators in the valley
don’t seem to worry
don’t wander around for prey

For God has seen the lamentation,
The cries and sobbing of the nation
Pharaoh celebrating the millennium,
His magicians making its emblem
The monumental heritage of the city
The blasphemous hotel of Alamoudi
Delude those who paid homage
To induce conceptual damage

Then, spoke the God of Ethiopia
O! you children of Satan
O! you children of Babylon
Done evil beyond repair
desecrate the land no more
O! you born from the seed of hatred
Free my people from bondage
O! you the sons of dissolution
Leave my sacred altar and realm
For I say onto the world
With mighty voice and word
Ethiopia is the land of brotherhood

My vengeance is beyond measure
For idolatrous of “ferenj” and evil doer
You altered and defied my covenants
Prosecuted and vanished
the true children of the land
My wrath has come down
Heater than the blazing sun.

O! my people come as united as ever before
Reclaiming the promise given afore
To reshine and to glorify
With true color of identity
This is your ultimatum to the enemy.

ETHIOPIA WILL PREVAIL!
